Spruce Brook Farms is your source for food and produce import/export, including commodities and ingredients, and private label production, processing and packaging. The original Spruce Brook Farm was purchased in 1928 by Joseph Gerber. His son Emmanuel took over the farm in 1933, raising dairy, beef and cash crops. Throughout the 1950's and 1960's Spruce Brook Farms supplied fresh chicken, and other vegetables and produce products to the local grocery store chain, known then as IGA.

A SHORT HISTORY

  • 1928 Joseph Gerber buys Spruce Brook Farm

    Located in the heartland of Southwestern Ontario’s agricultural heartland, a new family tradition of quality and service is born.

  • 1930 Joseph Gerber begins shipping milk

    Starting in the early 1930's, Joseph Gerber began transporting milk daily to the local cooperative milk plant for both Spruce Brook Farms and other farmers in the vincinity

  • 1933 Joseph's son, Emmanuel, takes over the farm

    Expands the operation to include the production of poultry and eggs.

  • 1950 Spruce Brook Farms supplies local grocery store chain

    Spruce Brook Farms supplies fresh chicken, and other vegetables and produce products to the local grocery store chain, known then as IGA.

  • 1974 Emmanuel's son, David, takes over farm

    Expands the operation to include the production of poultry and eggs

  • 1994 Second farm purchased near Newton

    Facilitates production of larger scale egg and poultry production

  • 2004 Spruce Brook Farms buys Flash Freight Systems of Guelph

    Allows the efficient flow of inputs and farm products to market

  • 2006 Spruce Brook Farms ads a third property near Ariss

    Facilitates the refrigerated storage requirements of produce and food for the domestic and export markets. Also provides additional land of the type best utilized for the growing and production of fresh fruits and vegetables
