Our organization utilized the services of the DSD group at Flash Freight Systems under a dedicated contract position to manage the entire portion of our Ice Cream/Deep Frozen Foods Direct Store Distribution project. Covering the entire province of Ontario, the Project Scope covered approximately 825 stores, 2-3 weekly deliveries per stores on a 6 day delivery schedule, however, the project ended when the store customer elected to move the program to a pickup program, through an in-house carrier rather than that of a PPD arrangement.
Through the entire process we found the personnel at Flash Freight to be both professional and extremely proficient in the store delivery business. Their equipment was properly spec’d for the products being transported and was always available. The start up also drove the requirement for more than 100% of the scheduled equipment initially planned and Flash was able to accommodate, at their own peril, additional trailers with procurement of short term leases through trusted industry sources. The driving force was extremely professional and their rapport at the back door of the stores was excellent, providing us with much needed assistance, especially during our startup and transition phases. In many cases, their personal knowledge of receivers at the back doors of both the Metro and Loblaws stores enabled us to maintain a much higher rate of velocity and efficiency.
The principals and management of Flash Freight were committed to ensuring complete customer satisfaction. They were consistently engaged in ensuring that all benchmarks were achieved, both in maintaining service levels and improving cost structures. Their “flat rate per” pricing model was effective in ensuring that costs for regularly scheduled distribution were both quantifiable and predictable, while their service levels and pricing for expedited and non standard requirements were excellent.
I would confidently recommend Flash Freight Systems as a carrier of choice for any large scale DSD project, as their commitment to true partnership and willingness to understand the key success factors in our client’s business allowed us to successfully manage both the opening transition and day to day operations of our account. They are a company that understands what success is and how to drive to it.
